TOURNAMENT RULES
I. Membership and Communications
The deadline for membership is the start date of the second event. The only monetary requirement is to purchase your required number of teams.
To sign up, please go to the Official 2015 Tour Championship Sign Up page in the Players' Championship forum. We are trying to move away from using personal emails as much as possible, however, an available email to currently use is TourCommissioner2015@yahoo.com or you can PM (private message) the Commissioner at “J-Pav” on the boards.
While this rules page provides a good general guideline for the 2015 Tour Championship, there are additional posts in the Players' Championship forum on the boards which contain more detail. All managers are expected to follow the threads in the forum which pertain to the tour in order to have the most up to date and pertinent information available to them.
II. Qualifying Events
The tournament will consist of five qualifying events that will be used to rank order the managers. Every manager must play in at least four of the tournament events to be eligible to compete in the Semi-Finals round and Champions League. The rankings will be based on each manager's cumulative score. If you have played all five events, your lowest event score will be dropped. If you only play in four of the events, you will not be eligible to drop your lowest score.
III. League Assignments
Once you have signed the Official 2015 Tour Championship Sign Up Page, you are automatically entered in the first start date for that event. If you cannot participate that week, there is a second available start date for the following week. You must email or PM (private message) the Commissioner by the deadline for entry if you wish to change your league start date. Once the deadline for emailing has passed, the Commissioner will post league assignments in the Players' Championship forum, usually the next day. Every qualifying league will also use the new feature to randomize all teams within the league.
Once your team enters its league, do not pull your team out for any reason. If you selected a wrong stadium, email or PM the Commissioner which stadium you intended to use and I will try to get it changed before official play begins. If any games have been played, the stadium will not be changed and a 20 point penalty will be assessed if this results in stadium duplication (see Section IX - Ballpark Requirements).
IV. Semi-Finals Leagues
Once all five events are completed, the top 36 ranked tournament managers will compete in three semi-finals leagues to determine the 12 managers (the four managers to make the playoffs in each semi-final league) who will advance to the Championship League.
Player rankings are determined by wins on the field, both regular season wins and playoff wins. The total wins from four events are required to advance to the semi-finals round. If a manager participated in all five qualifying events, he will drop his lowest event score.
V. Championship League
The four playoff managers from each of the three semi-finals leagues will meet in the Championship League to determine the 2015 Tour Champion.
There will be an eight pick live draft for the Tour Championship, consisting of seven players and a ballpark, to be done on the forum boards. The draft will NOT be serpentine for the finals - i.e., the draft order will be repeated in each round. These "seeding" rules for the draft order provide an incentive and a reward for the managers who finish with the highest scores in the qualifying events.
VI. Use of Fillers
Some qualifying leagues for an event will need "fillers" due to the fact that we will not have an even numbered membership (divisible by 12) and we will probably have some "dropouts" during the season. "Fillers" generally are non-Tour players who will play in the qualifying league for the sheer joy of competition. If necessary, they might also be Tour players who will play in an extra league just to fill out the league, but whose score for that league will not count toward their official Tour standings (ie, only their first team entered in a round will count for points).
VII. Point System / Tiebreakers
- 1 point for each regular season win in a qualifying league
- 1 point for each postseason win in a qualifying league
Tiebreakers
1. Championships won
2. Finals made
3. Playoffs made
4. Run differential (four best teams for each manager totaled together)
5. Pick 3 winner
VIII. Tournament Violations
Salary Dumping: If a manager drops his team salary below 90 percent of the original starting salary, please report this to the Commissioner immediately. I will ask OnlineGameSupport to return the team to its previous state above 90 percent and lock the manager out. If this situation occurs with the same manager twice, that manager will be disqualified and prohibited from participating in any future 2015 Tour events.
Once official play begins, failure to observe the rules against re-using ballparks in the playoffs will result in disqualification from the tournament. However, if the error is detected early enough to be corrected by OnlineGameSupport before the beginning of official play, then the manager will not be disqualified.
There is no "super reliever" penalty. For those new to the tour, there was a time when we imposed a 200 inning maximum on any relief pitcher. That penalty is no longer pertinent.
IX. Ballpark Requirements
A manager must not re-use a ballpark during the Tour Championship. For example, if he used Fenway in Event I, he may not use Fenway in Events II-V, nor may he use Fenway in any playoff round.
There can be more than one player using the same ballpark in the same event and/or league. For example, player X and player Y may both use Fenway in Event I - League I (in theory, the same ballpark could be used by all 12 teams in any qualifying league or event). The prohibition relates to the same player using the same ballpark twice during the Tour Championship.
A player who is acting as a ”filler" for any particular event and league may use whatever ballpark he wants to use. You cannot impose a penalty on a team that does not count in the official standings anyway.
If a player re-uses a ballpark in the qualifying events, there will be a 20 point penalty.
X. League Setup
All leagues will be set up as Advanced and use the new Weighted Waivers post-draft system. Unless otherwise specified, all leagues will use the 5/10/20% free agent drop penalty.
Disclaimer:
While the above rules have been established in order to provide some formality for the 2015 Tour Championship, the “Tour” is based primarily on “tradition” borne of this simple statement: “Let's play four or five qualifying leagues and the 36 managers with the most cumulative wins will play in three semi-finals leagues. The 12 playoff winners from those three leagues will battle in one more league to crown a Tour Champion.”
Please note that if unusual circumstances warrant, the Commissioner reserves the right to tweak or modify these rules during the tournament if doing so provides clarity and/or fairness to a particular situation.
Finally, the Commissioner is not an employee of Strat-O-Matic, and while they are generously kicking in prizes for our competition, this has nothing to do with the folks at OnlineGameSupport. Do not call, write, email, or telegram them to complain about anything that goes on regarding this tournament. This is not “officially sanctioned” if you will, and Strat-O-Matic is not to be held responsible for anything voluntarily organized among ourselves. Consider this a legal disclaimer on behalf of SOM.
